Huawei has gained a lot of attention through their remarkable smartphones in the last 2 years. Honor 10, Honor 9 Lite, Honor 9i, Honor 7x are some of the smartphones which went trending for some time and amongst them, and Honor 9 Lite is one of the smartphones which is still giving tough competitions to Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and Asus ZenFone MaxPro M1. Today, we will talk about the latest Honor device, Honor Play and review it on the basis of several tests conducted. I got this review unit for about a week and I conducted several tests and based on my conclusion, I have summed up my review for Honor Play. I admit and guarantee it is an unbiased review and there are no hidden intentions. So, let's look on to what Honor Play is all about:

Honor Play Design
When I took this smartphone Honor Play first time in my hand, I thought this is a flagship smartphone due to its premium and classy look but later I got to know this is a mid-range smartphone. The design looks completely mesmerizing. Talking more about the design, there is a notched display just like the iPhone X which gives Honor Play a premium look. Also, it has a fingerprint sensor at the back. This is the cheapest Honor device with the notched display so you can expect how it to be.
Honor Play has 3.5mm headphone jack, speaker grills at the bottom. At the rear portion, it has dual rear cameras followed by a LED Flash. But I felt disappointed as there is single speaker grill.
Honor Play Display
Now talking about the display, there is 19.5:9 aspect ratio with Full HD+ display (1080x2340 pixels). It also has a notched display which is the most attractive feature of its display. Also, there is a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection to save its display from any kind of screen damage. Although, I didn't use too many functions on Display but I checked the brightness level and it was enough to look in the bright light. So, you can expect decent display quality in Honor Play.
Honor Play Performance
Honor Play is powered by Octa-Core HiSilicon Kirin 970 SoC which is most powerful and battery efficient processor by Huawei. You can also categorize this processor as a flagship processor. If you know nothing about this, let me tell you, this is a battery efficient processor which means your battery will be saved a lot.
Along with this, there can be 4GB/6GB RAM with 64GB Internal Storage. I felt Honor should have launched another variant of 128GB as there is Hybrid Sim Slot.
Now talking in more details about Honor GPU, it has a GPU-turbo-out of the box which means its GPU has a turbo mode. Honor Play is powered by Mali G72-MP12 which is really a stronger GPU.
I played many heavy games like Fifa 2018, PUBG for a while and felt no lags or glitches in the games. It went as smooth as possible. So, performance wise, you can expect a great balance from this device.
Honor Play Camera
Now, talking about the Camera specifications, Honor Play has a dual rear camera of 16MP and an additional 2MP camera for depth sensing. Since it is a 2MP camera for depth sensing, the Bokeh effect shots will not be as good as they are in Redmi Note 5 Pro, but if you don't compare it to other devices, you can expect a good camera quality here.
In the front, you get the 16MP camera with Bokeh Mode for clicking wonderful selfies. However, this bokeh effect is completely by software but still its worth it. Overall, you get balanced camera specifications.
I took some photos of Honor Play devices and they were awesome. So, a big thumbs up to its camera
Honor Play Software
Honor Play runs on Android v8.1 Oreo with EMUI 8.0 skin on the top. Huawei devices have their own UI and you can't complain about them as their UI looks way awesome than any other smartphone company. Honor officials said that Honor Play will receive routine security patch updates and even Android P update which means a lot to an Android User.
Honor Play Battery
Honor Play is powered by a non-removable Li-Po battery of 3750mAH which will easily run for about 2 working days. As I told you about its processor, Kirin 970 SoC is a battery efficient and here it comes to play. When I used this device, it easily ran for about 2 working days with still 18% battery left and I did all the things. There are no heating issues as such so its a big plus.
Honor Play Pros and Cons
- Octa-Core HiSilicon Kirin 970SoC
- Notched Display
- GPU Turbo
- Big Battery
- Weak 2MP Camera
- Single speaker grill
- Software Bokeh
So, here is the big question, should you buy Honor Play and which users should be interested in Honor Play. See, if playing games are your highest priority or you like to run heavy apps like MATLAB or other Engineering tools, you can expect a great performance and thus I would recommend all those people to buy Honor Play. Also, there is a notched display just like the iPhone X which looks ultra cool. This device has a premium build design making it look cooler.
But if you are looking for a camera smartphone then I would not recommend the same as the camera quality might not be the best. Honor Play is launched in China with the price tag of 1999CNY (approx Rs.20000). Let me know in the comments section of you are really interested in Honor Play.
