Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Review

Xiaomi has launched the most awaited smartphone of all the time which we all were eagerly waiting for. This smartphone could easily beat the smack out of all other smartphones in its price-range. This smartphone is priced very accordingly so it would crash the market of all other smartphones in this range. The Redmi Note 5 Pro can easily challenge Moto G5s Plus as well as Xiaomi Mi A1 if we compare in its price range. However, I got this review unit for about 2 weeks and I used it thoroughly to make my final verdict. I hope this would be a unbiased review for Note 5 Pro without any cherries. So, without much do, let's start with Note 5 Pro review:

Redmi Note 5 Pro Design

The Redmi Note 5 Pro has a sleek design with just 8.05 mm thick. The smartphone looks very sleek and slim. Earlier, in Redmi smartphones, there always had 2 grills below but this time Xiaomi used their minds and saved a lot of space by introducing a single speaker grill at the bottom. Also, just like Mi A1, the 3.5mm headphone jack is at the bottom.

Redmi Note 5 Pro Back

The only de merit about the design part is it still has conventional USB Type B and not Type C. At the side, you get Power and Volume buttons which need not be described.

Redmi Note 5 Pro Capacitive Touchbuttons

Now comes the back portion, we have Dual rear cameras just like iPhone X has. Maybe, Xiaomi has bluntly copied the Apple iPhone X's design. Also, there is a fingerprint scanner at the back which works damn correct and responsive.

Display

Xiaomi's Note 5 Pro has 5.99 inches Capacitive touchscreen which has a blue screen filter. It has an aspect ratio of 18:9 which is an upgradation from Redmi Note 4. Since, there is a 18:9 ratio, so the resolution is also counted under Full HD+ Also, Xiaomi told in the launch event that there is Gorilla Glass protection which is a plus. Also, there is a 2.5D Curved Glass protection which makes the display even better.

Redmi Note 5 Pro Display

Overall, the display configurations are wonderful. Some other specifications include Blue Light Filter, 84% NTSC color gamut, Sunlight Mode, Night Mode, Reading Mode, Color temperature adjustment

Performance and UI

Xiaomi has installed the latest mid-ranged processor i.e Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC which is a powerful and battery efficient processor. It is an upgrade of Snapdragon 630 SoC. I'm happy that Xiaomi here tried for the latest processor while launching their smartphones. Now at least, the users will not complaint about the processor. Also, the GPU used is Adreno 509 which is a very powerful GPU. I tested some heavy games to check whether there are any heating issues or gaming lags but I hardly found any. I'm totally impressed with the processor. But one thing I missed here was the presence of NFC otherwise it could have been perfect device for me.

Also the RAM installed is LPDDR4X for 4GB/ 6GB. I personally, dont think there is a need for 6 GB RAM variant but I guess it would be better to opt for this rather if you planning for Moto X4

Redmi Note 5 Pro Anutuu Benchmarks

The UI used here is MIUI 9.2 and not stock version of Android. This was very predictable but I was shocked to see there is no Android Oreo. In this era, where every smartphone aims to have Oreo, it is sad to see Nougat in Note 5 Pro. I also dont think Xiaomi would give Oreo update untill June, 2018 as they have many delays and issues.

Camera

The camera department of Redmi Note 5 Pro is very interesting as it has a Dual rear camera with 16MP+ 5MP. The secondary camera is not a telephoto lens but it is used only for depth-capturing. The camera quality was good as it took amazing pictures even in day light conditions.

Redmi Note 5 Pro Daylight

The depth enabled mode works fine and it is capable of clicking some wonderful DSLR like photos.

Redmi Note 5 Pro Bokeh Effect

Even in night light or artificial lighting conditions, they are good as Moto G5s Plus and that a very good thing to boast about.

Redmi Note 5 Pro Night Light

Now if we talk about Front camera, the front camera is a 20 MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture lens just to knock the markets of Oppo F5 and Vivo V5s Plus which offers the selfie devices at incredibly higher prices. The quality of the images are awesome and it has even LED Flash which works well and good in aritficial lighting conditions. Overall, the camera passed my test.

Battery

The battery for Redmi Note 5 Pro is worth 4000 mAH Battery which can easily last upto 2 working days. I'm really surprised the battery output is so wonderful. Under my review time, I used this device for about a whole week and charged it about 3 times on full 100%. Each time, I charged with my Quick charge just to ensure that it consisted Quick charge technology.

But unfortunately, Xiaomi has not given Quick Charger in the box. So, you would have to buy externally from the store.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Best camera in this price range
  • High battery with Quick Charge
  • 18:9 aspect ratio
  • Powerful processor

Cons

  • No NFC
  • No Type-C USB Port
  • No Android Oreo
  • Copied back design just like iPhone X

Copied Design

My Opinions

Undoubtedly, it is the best smartphone in this price range. I have compared it with Mi A1 and still found this one better due to battery and camera performances. This device would be available at Flipkart for Rs.14999 for 4GB RAM variant and Rs.16999/- for 6GB RAM variant. I believe the 6 GB RAM variant is overpriced and should not be considered under value for money deal. However, under Rs. 15000, I bet you would never find a smartphone like this, loaded with specifications.

So, that was all from me, I hope you liked this one. If you have something for me, leave it in comments section
