Oppo A71 (2018) Hands on Review

Oppo A71 (2018) Hands on Review

Oppo is not very famous in the budget-segment and mid-ranged markets as they provide not so efficient specifications for their smartphones. Over the years, we have seen many smartphones like Oppo A75, Oppo A75s, Oppo A83, Oppo A79 but the specifications are dull and poor. Also, in their best category smartphones like Oppo F5 there is nothing to be proud of besides their 24 MP front camera. Although, there are some hidden features in Oppo F5, but nevertheless it's not a value for money product. Now, Oppo is back again with mid-ranged smartphone of earlier version of Oppo A71. They haven't changed the name of the smartphone yet but have added many features as confirmed by reports. I got this review unit from Oppo Officials and I used Oppo A71 (2018) for about 7 days before coming on any conclusion. So, let's start with our detailed review:

Oppo A71 (2018) Design

The design of Oppo A71 (2018) is not very supreme. You won't get a premium feel by holding this smartphone but the overall design looks very classy and simple. For those who are fed up with round-edge corners will love this design. You get LED FLash on the rear portion with Oppo Logo written on it. On the side, there are volume rockers and power buttons, where the quality of buttons I found were very great. There is a speaker grill on the bottom portion which we don't see normally in Oppo smartphones.

But the major missing part in this design part is the Fingerprint sensor. You dont get any fingerprint sensor which is surely a lacking part as at in this price range, it's a very common thing. Tenor D which is available at only Rs. 4999/- also has a fingerprint sensor.

Oppo A71 (2018) Display

The display portion is what we have negative part of this smartphone. You get 5.2 inches HD Display with 282ppi pixel density. To be honest, I was expecting a Full HD Display but I'm thankful Oppo didn't give QVWGA Display afterall. But you don't get any display protection like Corning Gorilla Glass or even 2.5D Curved glass. At this price range, these things should have been there. Also, there is a traditional 16:9 aspect ratio which is a negative aspect of Oppo A71 (2018).

You will have to sue screen protector, tempered glass and other accessories to protect your smartphone with means you will have to spend extra money on this smartphone. But if you are already spending a heavy amount, why would you want to spend again and again.

Oppo A71 (2018) Performance

Oppo usually doesn't give Qualcomm snapdragon processors because they are simply costly and Oppo doesn't believe in cost cutting and giving better processors. But this time, tables have turned as in Oppo A71 (2018), you get an Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 Processor which is a wonderful thing if we compare it with earlier Oppo smartphones.

Now Talking about Snapdragon 450 SoC, it's not as cool or bright as Snapdragon 625 SoC but it is certainly better in its range. At, least Oppo didn't give older processors and fooled people. The processor is quite good and you can play heavy gaming if you want. I played some heavy games like Subway Surfers, Asphalt 8 and found a very smooth experience with it. It's because there's a very cool GPU (Graphics Processign Unit), Adreno 505 is installed. So, expect it to be a heavy gaming device with no over heating issues.

Oppo A71 Hybrid Sim Slot

The RAM is 2GB which I think is less. At this budget, they could have given 3 GB RAM but the device didn't stop responding. Also, the internal storage is 16 GB. Although, you can extend it upto 256 GB. Also, the problem is it has Hybrid SIM slot!

Oppo A71 (2018) Camera

The Oppo A71 (2018) has 13 MP Rear camera with Ultra-LED technology and the rear camera can capture upto 32 MP images. The camera can record videos upto 1080p at 30fps which is a good thing. There is also LED Flash for better images quality at night.

The front camer is also a 5 MP front shooter with AI powered based technology with Beautification. Hence, you get a very enhanced selfies images from the camera. Overall, at this point, I'm impressed by the camera.

But the fact is, Oppo A71 doesn't bear a dual rear cameras. At this point, where every smartphone is having a dual rear camera setup, it is very surprising to see this smartphone lacking camera hardwares.

Battery

This Oppo device uses a Li-Polymer battery of 3000 mAH Battery which can run upto 1 working day for sure. I used this device from full charging and it ran about 1 day with 14% remaining battery. This device has 4h 30mins of on-screen time. It also has a standby time of 25 hours. Also, there is no fast charging support so it will take upto 2 hours to fully charge this smartphone.

Price and Availability

The Oppo A71 (2018) has been launched in Pakistan and its launch price is Rs 12,990. The device is expected to be available for global purchase in the coming week (before February comes to an end).

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • AI Powered Selfie Camera
  • Decent battery life
  • Octa-Core Processor

Cons

  • No fingerprint sensor
  • Less RAM
  • No Screen Protection

Oppo A71 (2018) Specifications

Conclusion

Oppo A71 (2018) is priced at Rs. 12990/- for 2 GB| 16GB variant. Although, it has Octa-core Snapdragon 450 SoC which is better processor. The smartphone is undoubtedly a great device, but in this era, where the competition is very tough, I don't think it would beat Honor 7x, Honor 9 lite and Mi A1 in its price range. However, if you are looking for a better selfie camera you can give it a shot!
