Techno Camon i Unboxing & Hands-On Review

Techno has launched another budget-ranged smartphone to compete within the market with other smartphones like Micromax Canvas Infinity, Smartron t Phone P, iVooomi i1 and Infocus Vision 3. These are already some smartphones which you can easily get under Rs. 9999/- and here after launching of Camon i, I believe the competition has been taken to a new level. the company has been hyping a lot about their Quad-LED which will enhance the camera performance under low-lighting conditions. Also, the company Techno projected this smartphone as a selfie-centric smartphone and it will be wonderful if this smartphone performs well. We got the review unit directly from our some sources and we took no time in using this smartphone and unboxing it and reviewing it. This smartphone looks very positive and familiar to me due to its 18:9 aspect ratio or FullView Display which you don't see normally in other smartphones. So, here I'm giving an unbiased unboxing and hands-on review according to me on Techno Camon i

The deisgn of Techno Camon i is typically similar to what other budget-segmented smartphones are having. You get metallic back which is completely metal and at its price range, you can boast more from this device. But admist of all these factors, you get a Plastic Back cover which can protect your smartphone. Also, you get 12+1 Months Warranty on this device however, we still don't know about their services and technical support and it will take time in understanding these things as well.

On the top, it has 3.5 mm headphone jack , whereas on the side, you get Volume rockers and power buttons. The quality of buttons is not that great and it makes a click sound on pressing the buttons, but don't worry as you will get used to it. On the bottom you get USB Charging slot and only 1 grill of speakers. I don't think this smartphone is too loud as there is only 1 speaker and that too, with low voice. The best thing about the design part here is it has dedicated microSD card slot which means you can insert two Nano SIMs and one microSD Card as per your wish. Also, you get Fingerprint sensor at the back which makes half a second of delay but I must say, it is damn accurate. Nothing to worry about in the fingerprint sensor.

The Camon i has 5.65 inches Full HD+ Display of 1080x2160 pixels with having over 364ppi pixel density. I was expecting a HD Display here but thanks to Techno for giving Full HD+ resolution even in budget-ranged smartphones which is a remarkable move.

Also, those who are still in doubt, let me tell you there is a Gorilla Glass Protection (however, unspecified version) and also got 2.5D Curved Glass Display which you don't see normally in budget-ranged smartphones. Also, since the aspect ratio is 18:9, so the bezels are minimised to an extent. You will feel amazed by its design and display section. Also, since there is no space on the front portion so there are no capacitive touchbuttons and you fill find them on the screen itself which makes it even more interesting.

User Interface

The Techno Camon i is running on Android v7.0 Nougat with HiOS 3.2.0 on its top. I must say, their User Interface looks very pathetic and they will feel some negative comments here. I don't know why they haven't implemented Stock version of Android which looks damn cool and interesting. If you are a geek and all you care about is an User Interface on a smartphone, then I'm sorry, this smartphone is not made for you. But if you know how to install custom ROMs, then you can change its ROM and make it even more cool. The decision is totally upto you.

The Camon i is running on Quad-Core 1.25GHz MediaTek MT6737T processor which is not made for heavy gaming purposes. The smartphone could have better processors if we look into the pricing range as we have seen some smartphones which are less costly but still exhibit wonderful processors like Smartron t. Phone P is available for only Rs. 7999/- and has Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 SoC. Also, Redmi 5A and 10.or D have Snapdragon 425 SoC which are somewhat still better than MediaTek MT6737T.

Overall, this is not a processor made for heavy gaming purposes. You can often get soem heating issues if you would play heavy games and I strictly do not support heavy gaming. But let me tell you, I played some heavy games like Temple Run 2, BBL, Subway Surfers and they all run pretty well without any heating issues. I almost played these games for 1 hour and the smartphone was little bit heated up but that was not a reason to worry as it is normal. However, you can play normal games and they would not trouble you anyway.

The company Techno has projected and hyped this smartphone as a selfie centric smartphone as it has 13 MP with f/2.0 aperture lens with front LED-Flash. The front camera looks damn convincing and I'm purely convinced by this smartphone as a selfie-centric smartphone. The selfie are very clear and it has auto-beautification mode which enhances the image more accurately. Normally, we don't see a budget-ranged smartphones having a 13 MP front camera and that too with LED-Flash.

The rear camera is also a 13 MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture lens with Quad-Flash. You can even use this smartphone as a brief-flashlight as it's Quad-LED is very bright. But then, it consumes more and more battery. Overall, this is a wonderful setup of rear camera.

The images look very natural. However, there are no dual cameras but the single camera is so powerful that would make you forget about the secondary camera. It also has additional features like Quad-LED Flash, Geo-tagging, Auto HDR, panaroma, Touch focus, Face Detection, Auto refocus, Front LED Flash.

Techno Camon i has 3050 mAH Battery, just 30 mAH Battery less than Xiaomi Mi A1 but has more on-screen time than most of the budget-ranged smartphones. What I'm worried about here most is, the processor is not battery efficient and even it is not a stock android UI, so it will no give you on-screen time of more than 5 hours which may be less. At first, this smartphone would not trouble you, but if you look at long-term consequences, it will fail miserably. Although, on my usage it ran around 4 hours approximately when I used WiFi, 4G and played some videos. Since, there is no fast charging so to charge Techno Camon i from 0-100%, it will take around 2h 30mins which is a lot of time. However, it also has Talktime battery upto 12 hours and Music play time battery upto 50 hours

Pros and Cons

  • 18:9 aspect ratio
  • dedicated microSD card Slot
  • Powerful Selfie-camera
  • Minimum Bezels
  • Fingerprint scanner

  • Unnatural User Interface (HiOS v3.2.0)
  • Weak processor (MediaTek MT6737T)
  • Additional Bloatwares
  • Less battery

My Opinions

The Techno Camon i is available for Rs.8999/- for 3GB|32GB variant. There are other many smartphones which are way better in terms of specifications if you see like Smartron tPhone P and Infocus Vision 3. It has wonderful camera and those who want to buy for camera purposes, may go for this smartphone. I pretty much liked this smartphone at once, but once I used it and I got to know it has a weak processor, all the interest vanished off from me. I do not strongly recommend you this smartphone but you can give a look into this for camera and FullView Display
