Xiaomi is already in a very good taste after having seen the results of its mid-ranged smartphone, Xiaomi Mi A1 as it beated almost every other smartphone like Honor 9 Lite and Moto G5Plus within the same pricing range. Xiaomi won't be surprised if they see A1 beating all other smartphones again in 2018. But again, Xiaomi sometimes, like to compete with themselves and thus they have launched Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus and soon they will be launching Redmi Note 5 in the same price range making Mi A1 more difficult to survive in those harse conditions. But for some fans, there is a wonderful news hidden, which says that Xiaomi would launch its second edition of Mi A1 which would be called as Xiaomi Mi A2, and will be hitting the stores in Q3 of 2018. We have got some details from Xiaomi Mi A2 and now we are previewing this smartphone to look whether it will perform again in the markets. So, here is our pre launch review of Xiaomi Mi A2:
Xiaomi was already perfect with the design segment in Xiaomi Mi A1 with 5.5 inches touchscreen and 16:9 aspect ratio. Also, they kept the fingerprint sensor at the back and some capacitive buttons at the front. Now, hardly there are any changes we will see in Xiaomi Mi A2 but possibly, the year of 2018 is all about the 18:9 aspect ratio or FullView Display, so I guess Xiaomi who has already done for Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus will go for 18:9 aspect ratio in Xiaomi Mi A2.
This is not a very big surprise to see. Also, we might see Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection which may be a good thing. All the other things would be unchaned as I believe. Now, it will be very interesting to see how Xiaomi would react to this.
Since, the smartphone is more likely to be a 18:9 aspect ratio, so the resolution might be Full HD+ or 1080x2160 pixels. Also, in the traditional smartphones from Xiaomi, we have always seen IPS LCD capactive touchscreen but this time, we just might see LTPS (Low Temperature Polycrystal Silicon) which is mainly used for batter optimisation and other usages. Also, we would have increased size of 6 inches display on the front where we have only 5.5 inches display. These display changes are drastic and it totally defines the all new upcoming Xiaomi Mi A2.
User Interface (UI)
The Xiaomi Mi A1 was based on Stock Android with no additional bloatwares and just 3 Xiaomi apps. Now, I guess Xiaomi is working on MIUI 10 or MIUI X and they would like there upcoming smartphones to have the latest MIUI 10. But there are also other Redmi smartphones who are way hungry for MIUI 10 than Xiaomi Mi A2. So, preferrably Xiaomi would still opt for Stock version of Android rather than forcing their MIUI as they know how people like today's era of smartphones.
The Xiaomi Mi A1 was launched with Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC which was paired with 4GB RAM. I guess, that was more than enough for Xiaomi Mi A1 but not for A2. We all know, Qualcomm is going to launch their new IC's named Snapdragon 670 and Snapdragon 640, both of them being Octa-core processors. As, Xiaomi took the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC for its Mi 7, there are more possibilites that Xiaomi would again snatch the first of these processors for Xiaomi Mi A2 which means the users would get the latest processors of version Snapdragon 625 SoC. The internal storage will be however kept at same 64 GB with being an Hybrid slot.
Xiaomi Mi A1 has the best camera if you are looking in that price range. No doubts, they compared the camer with Apple iPhone 7. The reason was the dual camera setup with 12 MP+ 12 MP cameras where one was the standard camera and other one was telephoto lens used for depth-capturing for Bokeh effect shots. One thing Xiaomi here missed out was the front camera improvements.
There front camera was not successful and it didn't go with the reputation with the A1. So, I guess the front camera in Xiaomi Mi A2 will be 8 MP with f/2.0 aperture lens and it would have wide-angle lens to capture images better. Since, the rear camera is already doing better, I don't think they could make it more better regarding the price range is too steepy.
Conclusion and My Opinions
One thing we missed out here is Battery, but we don't know what Xiaomi officials are thinking. Maybe, there are thinking to increase the battery or maybe they would like to keep it same. I believe they would not increase it more than 3500 mAH, as then the smartphone would be bulky. Also, Xiaomi Mi A2 would contain the same Android One program by which you will get all latest updates from Google from time to time and you will get even Android P faster and better.
I'm very curious to see Xiaomi Mi A2 as it was the best smartphone in my eyes of 2017 if you reconsider the price section. I have hardly seen any cons of Xiaomi Mi A1 and thus it will be very interesting to see Xiaomi launching another massive beauty and crush other's markets in 2018. The price is expected is same as Mi A1 which is Rs. 14999/-. However, this is not the official price. Let's all wait for Xiaomi Mi A2 and then talk more about that
