Smartron tPhone P Hands on Review

Smartron is an Indian smartphone brand which got some kind of big hype when they launched a smartphone dedicating to God of Cricket Sachin Tendulkar naming it as the SRT Smartphone. The smartphone was quite decent if we consider the price with the specifications, but the promotions were not upto the mark. As a result, the smartphone could not beat Xiaomi Redmi 3, 3S or Xiaomi Redmi 4A. Since then, Smartron was in big news as they kept on revealing some new smartphones at some decent pricing range. Now, they are back again with Smartron tPhone P and it seems to be one of the best packages in budget-ranged smartphone history. Although, they are not going with the flow and thus the screen aspect ratio is still conventional, but considering the price range, it seems to be manageable. This smartphone will be exclusively available on Flipkart on Flash Sale from 17th January, 2018 from Rs. 7500/-. Here, I got the review unit of Smartron tPhone P for a while and I never hesitated in using that to make a good hands on review. So, let's start off with the unbiased Smartron tPhone P first impressions and hands on review:

What amazed me the most in Smartron tPhone P design, is the metal body which you don't get in budget-ranged smartphones. Be it Xiaomi Redmi 4, Infocus Vision 3, Tenor D or iVoomi i1, none of them has got metal body. All of them has basic polycarbonate body which is quite equilvalent to plastic. It is really surprising to see a budget-ranged smartphone getting a Metal body which would prevent its breaking point.

If you look closely on its top portion, there is just a 3.5mm headphone jack and a secondary mic for noise cancellation which is an additional feature. On bottom of this grill, there are two grills of which only right one is the speaker. The volume buttons are quite clicky and even the power button has some strips which makes it more unique. Also, one more functionality is the fingerprint scanner at the back.

I tried the fingerprint scanner for most of the times. The scanner takes delay around half a second but it's damn accurate and you won't be complaining about this fingerprint scanner at all.

I have seen two smartphones (Infocus Vision 3 and iVoomi i1) in a shorter time span where there are 18:9 aspect ratios and pricing even less than Smartron tPhone P. I guess 18:9 aspect ratio is now a newer technology and it needs to be implemented as users like me get frustated to see a lot of bezels on their smartphones. This is the only thing which I pretty much disliked about Smartron tPhone P as it should have 18:9 aspect ratio. But, in this pricing range, we can't make that an issue.

Overall, you get 5.2 inches HD Display which is a capactive touchscreen and protected by 2.5D Curved Glass. I don't think we see curved glass to frequent in budget-oriented smartphones. However, there is resolution of only 720x1280 pixels (HD). This is not something new and it can easily go well.

Performance and UI

The smartron tPhone P is powered by Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 SoC which is clocked at 1.4 GHz on Cortex-A53 and have 3 GB of RAM. This is more than enough for a budget-ranged smartphones as they usually have a Quad-Core processor. Here, Smartron has tried to give their users something bigger and better. I even tried gaming on this smartphone and played games like Subway Surfers, Temple Run, New Star Soccer which worked absolutely fine. Believe me, there were no overheating problems however the smartphone got little bit warm but that wasn't an issue to be hyped of. You can have unlimited heavy gaming here as it has an Octa-Core processor.

Now, talking about the UI, it has nearly stock Android UI with least bloatwares. It has some pre-installed Microsoft apps and some Smartron Apps like 1TB Cloud Storage on tronX. So, there are no unnecessary apps and the menu style is just like the Stock experience. You won't be disappointed with the UI provided here by Smartron.

The Smartron tPhone P has 13 MP rear facing camera with PDAF and LED Flash with f/2.2 aperture and 1.12um pixel size. The camera hardware looks pretty good and it is too early to judge its camera. I won't boast too much with the camera as the colors were sometimes over saturated and sometimes over exposed. However, it did not affect the image quality. The video resolution can go upto 1080p @30fps.

At front, you get 5 MP shooter with LED Flash for clicking selfies. The selfie camera was also quite good. At least, you can't complain about these on a low-budget smartphone.

The big highlight here is the battery of Smartron tPhone P. It has non-removable Li-ion 5000 mAH Battery which can easily run upto 2 long days. Knowing that Snapdragon 435 SoC is a battery efficient processor, nomatter how much do you use, you will still get an on-screen time of at least 6-7 hours which is more than enough. I know that's too much but believe me, you would not charge twice a day your smartphone and that makes it unique from other smartphones. I used this smartphone and it lasted me for about 2 days with still 14% battery remaining and I used this smartphone a lot. So, you can imagine how worthy this can be.

Pros and Cons

  1. 5000 mAH Battery
  2. Quad-core processor
  3. Nearly Stock UI
  4. 2.5D Curved Glass
  5. 1TB Cloud Storage
  6. Fingerprint Scanner

  1. Traditional 16:9 aspect ratio
  2. Camera is not so good
  3. Hybrid SIM Solution

Conclusion and My Opinions

In my opinions, you wouldn't get any better smartphone than Smartron tPhone P. Watch my other review of Infocus Vision 3, it has all these features but it is available for only 2 GB and 16 GB Variant which is not good for long term use. Here, you are getting 32 GB storage and better specifications only for Rs. 7500/-.

This smartphone is for the people who have stucky budget but still want a decent smartphone to have heavy gaming with big battery life. You can do almost everything in this smartphone due to its processor. I totally recommend you this smartphone as it has an upper edge over other smartphones.
