Take your pick, be it on your way to the office or in the morning, just after you had gotten up, you are bound to glance first at your android before anything else. The fact of the matter is that all of us have become obsessed with our androids and more importantly with the various video portals on it. We are either trying to get the latest news or need something else in the form of soothing music. A recent study concluded that one of the causative factors behind many young teens developing various health issues from joint problem, vision issues to migraines can be closely linked with their behavior of watching videos on various portals through their android. This is exactly the reason why You tube decided to get into the digital wellness program and has started showing others the way on how to go about it. They decided to implement the “take a break” feature which frankly is a good idea but its effectiveness is yet to be gauged.
The take a break feature occupies a prominent position right next to the settings so you or for that matter, anyone should be able to miss out on it. It monitors the time you are viewing a particular screen and prompts you to take a break, ergo the take a break feature. The time settings can be adjusted as per preferences, and the mark set at 15, 30, 60, 120 and 180 minutes. By doing this, you would understand that it is time you took a break or you run the risk of developing dry eye and this can lead to associated health issues as well. A better idea would be to develop a hobby that keeps you off Youtube for a while but that being said, the ‘take a break’ feature is a step in the right direction.
This is how you can tinker with the settings at You tube and get the ‘take a break’ feature to roll up on cue
Tap the user profile: The first thing that you need to do is to tap the user profile – this is located at the top right corner, you cannot miss it for it also includes your profile snapshot. Now, tap on this
Settings:Once you have tapped your profile, a drop down menu should appear with settings being displayed at the bottom or close to it anyway. Now, tap settings
Setting up ‘take a break’: Once you have tapped settings, another drop down menu should appear with “remind me to take a break” feature being listed. You need to select this and now you should be all set to experience the beauty of digital wellness in the form of take a break feature. Once you have chosen this, you will be asked to select the time after which the ‘take a break’ prompt will be issued. You can choose a specific time, as it ranges from 15 minutes to 180 minutes.
The limit: Once you have hit the limit, your video will pause and you will be asked to take a much needed break. You also have the option to either adjust this time limit or turn off the feature altogether.
This is what ‘take a break’ feature is all about, so the next time you come across this feature, you may want to give your eyes a rest and take a much needed break before you develop a health issue.
