Wedding Day Music
Compilation producers: Paige Levy, Jeff Lysyczyn. One of the most maddening wedding chores--next to making up the guest list --is assembling the music you want played during the reception. "Wouldn't it be great," you think, "to have all my favorite love songs conveniently assembled on one CD? WEDDING DAY MUSIC is one step towards that goal. The disc mixes traditional "wedding" songs like Michael Peterson's terrific "From Here to Eternity" and Paul Brandt's "I Do" with a good collection of songs celebrating everlasting love. From Bryan White's well crafted "Between Now and Forever" to the soft rock gloss of Little Texas' "My Love," couples are sure to find songs to fit their special day. It's refreshing to hear Gary Morris' original take on "Wind Beneath My Wings," so different from Bette Midler's version. But the gem is Randy Travis' "Forever and Ever, Amen," a bouncy, funny song that still manages to convey the depth of the singer's devotion. "They say time takes its toll on a body/Makes a young girl's ...

The Wedding Singer by Original Soundtrack
Producers include: Chris Ballew, Dave Dederer, Jason Finn, John Porter, Brooks Arthur. The soundtrack to THE WEDDING SINGER is a journey back to the days of skinny ties and voluminous hair. The roster consists of slower, more somber hits, of which there was no shortage among the bands of the English new wave. From the Smiths' hypnotic classic "How Soon Is Now?" to the fatalistic throb of New Order's "Blue Monday," THE WEDDING SINGER consciously avoids the light-hearted fluff for which the eighties are too often remembered. This noble purpose is helped along by the haunting "Love My Way" by The Psychedelic Furs and Billy Idol's amusingly macho "White Wedding." It's not all pouting and running eyeliner, however. In fact, the album opens with a modern re-working of the Buggles' classic "Video Killed The Radio Star" by The Presidents Of The United States Of America which is somehow even quirkier than the original. Also included are "Somebody Kill Me," an 80's-style send-up by the film's star, Adam Sandler, a...

Greatest Songs of the Islands by Andy Williams (Vocals)
American musical tastes are capricious and often low-brow. An artist who scores a hit one day is forgotten the next. Certain singers have evaded this fate, for better or for worse, by recording every type of material put before them. Running the gamut, Andy Williams has tackled rock, country, and spirituals. On this CD, he arrives on Hawaiian shores. Williams and these 10 tunes were made for each other, as his mellow baritone fits perfectly with the Hawaiian guitars and violins. This is especially true when he prolongs his notes for romantic effect in songs like "The Hawaiian Wedding Song." Many of these songs are obscure today, but "Bali Ha'i" and "Some Enchanted Evening" are masterworks that defy categorization. Williams' easy way with this material is an indication of his value in American pop music.

When the Red King Comes by Elf Power
Elf Power includes: Laura Carter (vocals, various instruments). Additional personnel includes: David Barbe (vocals). Recorded in Athens, Georgia and New York, New York in 1996 & 1997. Lo-fi meets high concept in Elf Power's first nationally released full-length album; a send -up of Tolkien-damaged, Canterbury concept albums, with liner notes that barely let the band off the hook and great vintage fantasy art on the insert. But don't dust off the Dungeons and Dragons yet, because the music is more like a drunken wedding of Guided By Voices and The Flaming Lips. The album includes contributions from members of Neutral Milk Hotel and Olivia Tremor Control, delightful touches of tape loops and shawm, and a whole-hearted, full-throttle cover of Brian Eno's "Needles In The Camel's Eye," whose lyrics amusingly fit right in with the record's concept. These are off-key nursery rhymes that will leave you with a giddy, day-glo hallucinogenic smile.

Jane C. Sugarman - Engendering Song: Singing and Subjectivity at Prespa Albanian Weddings
For Prespa Albanians, both at home in Macedonia and in the diaspora, the most opulent, extravagant, and socially significant events of any year are wedding ceremonies. During days and weeks of festivities, wedding celebrants interact largely through singing, defining and renegotiating as they do so the very structure of their social world and establishing a profound cultural touchstone for Prespa communities around the world. Combining photographs, song texts, and vibrant recordings of the music with her own evocative descriptions, ethnomusicologist Jane C. Sugarman focuses her account of Prespa weddings on notions of gendered identity, demonstrating the capacity of singing to generate and transform relations of power within Prespa society. Engendering Song is an innovative theoretical work, with a scholarly importance extending far beyond southeast European studies. It offers unique and timely contributions to the analysis of music and gender, music in diaspora cultures, and the social constitution of self

She explains how to select the right neckline, construction, length, bodice, and waistline for each bride's figure. What fabrics are appropriate for certain times of day. How to choose among a veil, headband,
